Hamriya Port

Rope Access Maintenance for Rig Dixstone – Hamriya Port

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In April 2025, Spider Access, a leading provider of rope access services in the Middle East, successfully delivered a specialized oil and gas maintenance package to the Rig Dixstone while it was berthed at Sharjah Port. This critical project was executed during the vessel’s refurbishment period, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with international offshore standards.

Our IRATA-certified rope access team utilized advanced techniques to safely perform surface preparation, hydro blasting, and painting in complex, hard-to-reach areas—proving rope access to be the most cost-effective and reliable solution for offshore maintenance.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • STBD Jack House Painting
  • STBD Leg Well – Hydro Blasting and Painting
  • Helideck Underneath Pancake and Structures Painting

Surface Preparation & Painting – Jack House

For the STBD Jack House, our team executed a comprehensive surface preparation and painting program aligned with project specifications and client requirements:

  • Degreasing with approved chemicals to remove oil and contaminants.
  • High-pressure fresh water washing for a clean base surface.
  • Surface preparation to achieve the required profile and cleanliness.
  • Application of an approved protective coating system under controlled conditions.
  • Dry Film Thickness (DFT) checks to confirm compliance. This ensured long-term corrosion protection and extended the service life of critical structural components.

Hydro Blasting & Painting – Leg Well

The Leg Well hydro blasting and painting scope required precision and strict adherence to offshore safety standards:

  • High-pressure water jetting to remove rust, old paint, and salts.
  • Visual inspection to verify required cleanliness levels.
  • Application of the approved industrial coating system with strict recoat intervals.
  • Uniform coverage verified through DFT readings for quality assurance. This ensured robust protection against marine corrosion, meeting oil & gas sector maintenance standards.

Helideck Underneath Pancake & Structures Painting

One of the most challenging scopes was the helideck underneath structure painting, due to confined spaces and congested areas:

  • Rope access methods ensured safe and efficient entry into restricted zones.
  • Surface preparation included degreasing and power tool cleaning.
  • Painting was carried out as per the approved offshore coating system, achieving consistent DFT even in difficult areas.
  • Safety protocols, inspection hold points, and proper lighting were strictly maintained throughout execution.

This demonstrated Spider Access’s expertise in offshore rope access painting services, where conventional access methods are impractical.

KEY OUTCOMES

  • Safe execution with zero incidents, in compliance with IRATA and offshore safety standards
  • High-quality protective coating application across all critical structures
  • Timely project delivery, reducing downtime during vessel refurbishment
  • Cost-effective solution compared to scaffolding or conventional methods
